Welcome to the mystic land of festivals, Temples, colourful bazaars, quaint streets and fabulous art and architecture!

The history of Kathmandu Valley begins with the Buddhist saint Manjushree who slashed a passage through the surrounding hills to drain out the primordial waters and make it inhabitable. The Kathmandu valley with as many temples as houses stands upright piercing the sky canopy is aptly named ‘the valley of temples’. The Temples and Stupas scattered almost at every corner depict the deep faith of the people towards their customs and traditions taught by their ancestors, still preserved and frozen since time immemorial. The Kathmandu Valley, threshold of Nepal for the overseas visitors, has been a wonderland among tourists with the enormous diversity of people with their own culture, tradition and customs. It boasts a unique symbiosis of Hinduism, Buddhism as well as Tantrism in its culture, which is still alive today as it was hundreds of years ago. The religious influence can be seen openly in the city. The festivals celebrated and the rituals performed are worth observing and the fabulous art and the impressive architecture found in the vicinity is sure to make you awestruck. The magnificent artefacts found in the Durbar Squares of the three fabled cities are renowned as a masterpiece in the tourism arena. Longing for visiting the Kathmandu Valley is a genuine exploration through the Historical, Cultural and Traditional values of the three enticing cities within it!

Day

1Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! A friendly representative from Purple Journeys will meet-and-greet you at the arrival area of the Tribhuvan International Airport with a flower garland – a tradition gesture of Nepalese hospitality. You will then be ushered to your pre-booked hotel. Unwind from your flight and meet us in the evening at a traditional Nepalese restaurant for a fine meal accompanied by folk music and a cultural program.

Explore the cultural treasures of Kathmandu in our guided tour and immerse yourself in the vibrant array of bustling streets, incomparable historic buildings and heritage, exquisite temples and religious sites. The tour includes the holiest Hindu pilgrimage site of Pashupatinath Temple, the colossal stupa of Bouddhanath, Swoyambhunath Stupa also known as The Monkey Temple and the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square with ‘Kumari Ghar’ and other age-old monuments scattered around the vicinity.

Embark on a guided tour to other two cities within Kathmandu Valley – Patan and Bhaktapur, with an extraordinary array of temples, statues and artwork with exquisite carvings. First, we will visit Patan – ‘The City of Fine Arts’, with its ornamented courtyard at Durbar Square, Hiranya Varna Mahabihar known as ‘The Golden Temple’, and Mahabouddha Temple. After having lunch amidst the canopy of Temples and Stupas worth admiring, we drive to another equally fascinating and imposing ancient city of Bhaktapur. The Durbar Square of Bhaktapur shares some similarities to its counterpart of Patan but is of a more expansive architectural feast. The age-old monuments around Taumadi Square, Dattatreya Square, and Potter’s Square are the feat of sightseeing in the ‘City of Devotees’. It is a beautiful place to be in the late afternoon as locals congregate on the steps of the temples to meet and chat about the days. Before dusk, leave the hustle and bustle of the city and drive countryside to the hill station of either Dhulikhel or Nagarkot in time to savor the spectacular vista of the setting sun.

Start your morning with a glorious sunrise view over the Himalayas! Take care of any last minute souvenir shopping or sightseeing as time permits. We hope that you enjoyed your packaged tour with Purple Journeys! Our representative will transfer you to the airport approximately 3 hours ahead of your flight time. We bid you farewell and hope to see you in Nepal again, soon.
